Trip Report - HarbourvilleMay 13, 2001 | ![]() |
About a dozen people met at the Harbourville wharf on Mother's Day morning. They were forced to wait for the president and newsletter editor who were uncharacteristically late. After leaving half of the cars near Harbourville, the whole group went to Black Rock to start the journey. The weather was nice, although there were quite a few blackflies around.
As people walked along the beach, the group spread out, investigating pockets and veins of interest. At about midmorning we gathered at a large rockfall. It was decided that this spot required some further investigation. A nice pocket of heulandite and stilbite was opened near the bottom of a huge boulder. Some heavy tools were used to try and remove a large section of the boulder, but the boulder won the battle. A large pocket, several feet deep, was found in the cliff face at the top of the rockfall. A large amount of stilbite was removed. Some of the stilbite was sprinkled with laumontite.
After eating lunch, we continued on towards the old fall at Harbourville. This last fall has produced many specimens of heulandite and stilbite over the years. In the early afternoon, the trip ended as tired collectors returned home after a fun outing.
